Why did you locate in Old Takoma?

The Takoma area has become a center of progressive people and philosophies, healing and wellness services. Takoma Wellness Center encourages a holistic approach to wellness and, partnering with Takoma healing, nutrition, and wellness providers, will offer our patients a wide array of complementary health and healing services in the neighborhood.

We live in this neighborhood, literally a five-minute walk from the dispensary, and will be immediately available in any emergency. We are dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the local economy, not surrounding or far-flung jurisdictions. We have deep family roots here and want to be a dynamic part of creating an even better community. It is the perfect community in which to locate.

This location is ideal due to its proximity to the Metro Red Line Takoma Station (less than 150 feet and easily accessible by wheelchair), major bus lines and roadways, just blocks from Georgia Avenue and Piney Branch Road.  Takoma Wellness Center is accessible and convenient to patients throughout the northern half of the District of Columbia, who come to the neighborhood because of TWC  and the abundance of other wellness providers. We encourage our patients to shop and dine frequently in Takoma.

When is Takoma Wellness Center open? Do you see walk-ins?

We are open from 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday.  We are open from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

We are available to answer questions from patients and non-patients.  Only patients with a valid medical marijuana card or certification from Washington, DC, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Oregon, Pennsylvania, or Washington may purchase at the dispensary.  Guests of patients who are over 18-years may wait in the lobby.  Children are not allowed in the dispensary.

For non-DC patients, please bring your photo identification and valid state-issued medical marijuana card or certificate.  On your first visit, Takoma Wellness Center staff will make a copy of your identification and medical marijuana card/certificate and provide you a short orientation.  Then, you'll be able to make your purchase.

Are there any security precautions?

An armed member of the Fraternal Order of the Police (a retired police officer) is on the premises during operating hours.

Takoma Wellness Center visually records and monitors all building entrances and exits, parking areas, the rear area of the building immediately adjacent to the railroad tracks, and the inside of the facility (except for the restroom), including all limited access areas and areas where medical marijuana is stored and dispensed.

What if I am too ill or frail to come to Takoma Wellness Center to pick up my medications safely?

DC patients can appoint a registered caregiver, through the DC Department of Health, to act on their behalf.

Who can become a caregiver?

According to the DC Department of Health a caregiver must:

  • Be designated by a qualifying patient to serve as the person authorized, on the qualifying patient’s behalf, to possess, obtain from a dispensary, dispense, and assist in the administration of medical marijuana;
  • Be registered with the Department as the qualifying patient’s caregiver;
  • Not be currently serving as the caregiver for another qualifying patient;
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age; and
  • Have never been convicted of possession or sale of a controlled substance.

We can help DC patients and caregivers with their applications.

We can serve caregivers of patients in programs outside of Washington, DC, only when both the caregiver and patient are present at the dispensary.

What will happen once I’m inside Takoma Wellness Center?

Our staff will welcome you and check your medical marijuana card and government-issued identification. On your first visit, you will complete a cannabis questionnaire to help us understand your needs. Then, you will meet with one of our Patient Consultants who will help you make your selection, based on your unique needs and preferences. In the dispensary, you will have the opportunity to view the marijuana offered and learn about each strain’s particular profile and effects, both positive and negative. Feel free to check out our many books along with our extensive range of vaporizers, pipes, grinders, papers, cases and other accessories.

Purchases of medicine are limited to four (4) ounces per 30 days in any combination of strains. You are free to buy as little or as much of the four ounces as you wish.

We will be glad to offer information concerning both the medicine and our variety of accessories. Please let us know if you have a particular accessory you would like us to offer, and we will make every effort to obtain it.

How is “medical marijuana” different?

Medical marijuana is medical grade, specially grown under “organic” conditions to make sure it is 100% pure, that no dangerous chemicals have been used, and that it is free of all contaminants. Additionally, it is tested for purity and the percentage of different kinds of cannabinoids.
